Women Empowerment

Women are the most exploited sections of the society, and a dalit woman, more so being at the bottom of the social ladder, are still more exploited. They are discriminated against in all spheres and suffer from all sorts of exclusion in the society. Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram aims at their upliftment through making them major beneficiaries of its activities making them the main agents of social change by ensuring their inclusion in social, economic, political, educational and cultural activities.

Self Help Groups

BJSA has formed 200 women SHGs in 150 villages of its operational area. Besides savings and inter-loaning, these women also discuss the issues related to governance, NREGS, their rights and entitlements, etc. They are provided training on subjects such as organising meetings, savings, book-keeping and maintenance of records, cash book, ledger, etc., documentation of minutes, and provisions of loan and repayment.

BJSA organises educational tours and exposure visits to other SHGs for the women and adolescent girls so that they can interact with other women sharing common activities and issues and also giving them an opportunity to venture outdoors.

Awareness Generation for Adolescent Girls

BJSA organises meetings for awareness generation of adolescent girls in which they are informed of their rights and issues related to their education, proper nutrition for good health, cleanliness and biological changes occurring in them are discussed.

The organisation supports the women facing exploitation and atrocities at home or outside their home through the women CBOs formed by it. Extreme cases are taken to police stations and courts and advocacy is done to resolve the issues.

International Women’s Day

BJSA organises camps every year on International Women’s Day which coincides with the birth anniversary of Savitri Phule. Women issues related to domestic violence, wages in NREGS, education, women’s organisations and women’s rights are discussed at these camps. These camps make use of street plays, songs and rallies for awareness generation.
