Meeting with Advocates

A meeting with advocates from the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Advocates’ Forum Sultanpur Unit was held recently. The meeting highlighted several key aspects of their work and collaboration with Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram.

The advocates’ role in fact-finding of atrocities committed against Dalits and providing free legal counselling is crucial. It helps in documenting abuses, offering legal support to victims, and ensuring that justice is sought.

They monitor the progress of cases pending at various stages of resolution. Such monitoring ensures that legal proceedings are followed up effectively and that victims receive the support they need throughout the legal process.

Such initiatives contribute significantly to the empowerment of Dalit communities by providing them with the necessary legal support. It also helps in raising awareness about their rights and the mechanisms available for seeking justice.

Regular training sessions are conducted by Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram, in collaboration with organisations like the National Dalit Movement for Justice (NDMJ) and the Association for Advocacy and Legal Initiatives (AALI). These sessions are essential for enhancing skills and knowledge of the advocates. This capacity building helps them to better serve their clients and address complex legal issues more effectively.

Overall, the collaboration between Bhartiya Jan Sewa Ashram and the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Advocates’ Forum is a strong example of how dedicated efforts in legal support, training and advocacy can lead to meaningful progress in addressing social injustices and supporting marginalised communities.

The forum has active presence in about 20 districts across Uttar Pradesh, including Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Mau, and others. It has extensive reach and commitment to address issues faced by Dalits in various regions.
